A region steeped in myths and legends, this ultimate short break will give you a taste of Arctic Norway and takes in the best of the Hurtigruten southbound voyage.
Beginning in lively Tromsø, we weave through the stunning Vesterålen and Lofoten Islands before reaching medieval Trondheim.
Sailing south from Tromsø, we keep our eyes open for the magical Aurora Borealis as we navigate through inlets and channels of these cool waters. Jagged snow-clad peaks rise sharply from the sea and soon we reach the beautiful islands of Lofoten. This chain of islands is 120km long and home to the fishing communities which have helped to make Norway famous as a sea-faring nation. Painted boathouses line the harbours and deserted beaches and fjords pass us by.
Our journey is completed in the Viking capital of Norway, Trondheim. We pass by the 18th century Stiftsgården Palace and the magnificent 14th century Nidaros Cathedral, considered one of the grandest Gothic buildings in northern Europe.

Theatrical City Walk – Tromsø
Only available on Saturday departures
Join us on this entertaining walk through Tromsø complemented by poetry by Henrik Ibsen. During the walk you visit the Northern Norwegian Arts Museum and listen to the history of this enchanting city, also known as ‘the Paris of the North’, all the while accompanied by an actress who will recite and re-enact the story of Terje Vigen, one of Ibsen’s poems. You may also enjoy tea, coffee and cakes at a local café before continuing towards the northernmost Catholic Cathedral and the final highlight, the World Theatre, the oldest and northernmost cinema in Europe which is still operating.

Dog Sledging - Tromsø

Complete your holiday with a thrilling ride by Husky dog sledge across the open plains of Tromsø. Eager Huskies are harnessed to our sledge waiting to transport you across the frozen landscape. At the end of the trip a warm meal will be served in a lavvo (Sami tent). An exhilarating trip!

Polar Evening and Huskies – Tromsø

Experience Northern Norway’s unique Arctic
landscape and meet Husky dogs. An experienced outdoor guide will take you on a short walk through Arctic hills overlooking fjords while the Huskies carry the ingredients for our dinner. You will prepare your food over an open campfire, hot coffee and delicious homemade chocolate cake will also be served. The walk is suitable for all fitness levels.
