There can be few sights more stirring than that of the Killer Whale in its natural environment. On this trip to the beautiful Lofoten Islands you may join a Whale Safari* in search of Orca, or take part in a boat trip (RIB) to the stunning Trollfjord.

Arriving in the Arctic capital of Tromsø, we join the southbound ship. Sailing through the spectacular Vesterålen and Lofoten Islands, we call at picturesque settlements and pass through Raftsundet, the narrow channel that links the two island groups that have inspired myths and legends over time. Reaching Svolvær, we disembark and transfer to our overnight accommodation (Hotel or Rorbu cabins, depending on itinerary).

October to mid-January Departures
The following morning we sail from Svolvær quay to Tysfjord, a long narrow fjord where over 600 Killer Whales come to feed on herring each winter and our guide will introduce us to the lives of these fascinating mammals. With luck, we will be able to observe the playful behaviour of the younger members of the pod for ourselves and perhaps even experience their unique hunting methods first hand. We return to Svolvær later this afternoon for another night at your Rorbu and we will have the next day at our disposal before departing and joining the northbound ship. We will spend the night on board and have a leisurely morning before arrival in Tromsø in the early afternoon. Disembark and transfer for overnight stay.

Mid-January to March Departures
On these departures we include a fishing and sea eagle safari in your trip. You are taken out by traditional fishing boat to the clear waters of the archipelago where you can look out for the majestic sea eagle whilst waiting for a catch in this most beautiful of settings. If you opt for the extended itinerary from London Heathrow between February and March you have the opportunity to take part in an exhilarating RIB tour to the famous Trollfjord. A visit to the Gunnar Berg Gallery where you learn about the history of the battle of Trollfjord is also included. On the second day of your stay you have the option to join the fishing and sea eagle safari.

We offer a 30 Dec departure from London Stansted or a 28 Dec departure from London Heathrow (extended itinerary) which includes three nights at Svinøya Rorbu and a New Year Viking feast at the Viking longhouse at Borg.

Voyage Itinerary

DAY 1

Fly to Tromsø and embark the ship after dinner at around midnight (D)

DAY 2

Spend the day on board sailing through the Vesterålen and Lofoten islands, arrive in Svolvær early evening, transfer to hotel, dinner and overnight (B, D)

DAY 3

Whale safari, including light lunch, or fishing trip (depending on departure date). Board ship in the evening (B)

DAY 4

Morning on board, disembark in Tromsø and transfer to hotel for overnight stay (B)

The above itinerary is for departures from Stansted (Nov to mid-Jan). Departures from London Heathrow have a tour duration of four days/three nights and exclude the night in Tromsø. Extended departures include a two night stay at Svinøya Rorbu, comfortable fishermen’s cabins. These renovated or newly built chalets offer cosy and atmospheric accommodation.

Dog Sledging – Tromsø
Complete your holiday with a thrilling ride by Husky dog sledge across the open plains of Tromsø. Eager Huskies are harnessed to our sledge waiting to transport you across the frozen landscape. At the end of the trip a warm meal will be served in a lavvo (Sami tent). An exhilarating trip!

Polar Evening and Huskies –Tromsø
Experience Northern Norway’s unique Arctic
landscape and meet Husky dogs. An experienced outdoor guide will take you on a short walk through Arctic hills overlooking fjords while the Huskies carry the ingredients for our dinner. You will prepare your food over an open campfire, hot coffee and delicious homemade chocolate cake will also be served. The walk is suitable for all fitness levels.

Additional Whale Safari - Svolvær
Orca sightings, while very common, can never be guaranteed so an additional safari can be pre-booked to increase your chance of seeing these beautiful mammals.

Zodiac Safari - Svolvær
You have the option to travel by Zodiac (sturdy inflatable boats) allowing a much closer encounter with Orca, should a pod appear. Thermal overalls are provided and you can board the bigger boat for lunch.

Snorkel with the Killer Whales – Svolvær
A unique experience for anyone who is confident to snorkel with Killer Whales. You will be supplied with a dry suit and travel by Zodiac in search of Orca. With luck, you will have the rare opportunity to join them in the water and observe their behaviour below the surface.

Fishing And Sea Eagle Safari – Svolvær
With a skipper, well acquainted with the local area, head out on the fjord which offers great possibilities of catching different types of fish. Enjoy the journey through the spectacular fjords surrounded by dramatic mountains and breathe in the fresh air. There is plenty to see while you are waiting for the fish to bite and a chance to spot Sea Eagles.
